From Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport the route heads inland, leaving the coast almost immediately. The driver takes the A-45 north towards Antequera, climbing through the Puerto de las Pedrizas pass, then joins the A-92 in the direction of Granada. You leave the motorway near Villanueva del Rosario and follow local roads for the last stretch into Villanueva del Trabuco. It is roughly 65-70 km and usually around an hour with normal traffic. The landscape changes clearly along the way: coastal sprawl gives way to olive groves, rolling farmland and the grey limestone ridges of the sierras. The final approach is on quieter two-lane roads through open country, not narrow old-town alleys, so it is a straightforward drive with luggage.

Villanueva del Trabuco has limited public transport to the coast, so a booked door-to-door transfer is far more reliable than trying to connect by bus through Antequera. Give the driver a specific street address or a landmark like the Iglesia de San Marcos or the Nacimiento del Guadalhorce, as the town spreads into scattered outlying areas and GPS pins can be vague. If you are staying at a rural house in the sierra, confirm whether the access track is paved. Stock up on essentials in Antequera or at a supermarket before arrival, since local shops keep short hours and close midday. In winter the higher A-45 pass can see fog or cold snaps, so allow a little extra time for early-morning or late flights.
