The route leaves Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport heading southwest, joining the A-7 coastal motorway (the AP-7 toll road runs parallel if traffic is heavy). Most of the journey is straightforward dual carriageway past Torremolinos and Benalmádena, with the sea on the left and the Sierra de Mijas rising to the right. Traffic thickens around Fuengirola, especially in summer and on Friday evenings. The final approach turns inland off the coast road, and the last stretch narrows and climbs gently through residential lanes typical of the Mijas hillside — slower going than the motorway, sometimes with tight turns and speed bumps. Total driving time is usually a little over half an hour outside peak periods; allow more in July and August.

Addresses in the Mijas hills can be vague: urbanisation names, plot numbers and pool blocks are common, and satnav often stops at the wrong gate. Send your exact villa or block reference, plus a landmark or the nearest street, when you book, and share a phone number the driver can reach on arrival. Many lanes here are steep and narrow, so tell us in advance if you have a large group or a lot of luggage. If you're relying on a rental or supermarket run afterwards, note that the nearest large shops are down in Fuengirola or La Cala de Mijas, not in El Toril itself. For late flights, confirm someone will have keys and access, as villa check-ins are rarely staffed after dark.
