Private transfer from Zurich Airport to Zermatt Matterhorn
Door-to-door transfer from Zurich Airport to Zermatt Matterhorn with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
Why travellers head to Zermatt and the Matterhorn
Zermatt sits at the head of the Mattertal valley, directly beneath the Matterhorn's 4,478-metre pyramid. The village itself is car-free: only electric taxis and horse carts move along the main Bahnhofstrasse, lined with watch shops, ski rental outfits and chalet hotels. Winter brings skiers to the slopes of Sunnegga, Gornergrat and the glacier runs toward Cervinia in Italy, open almost year-round. Summer draws hikers to the Five Lakes Walk, the Gornergrat cog railway, and climbers attempting the Hörnli ridge. The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car reaches Europe's highest station at 3,883 metres. Families, serious mountaineers and day-trippers photographing the peak from the Kirchbrücke bridge all pass through the same compact centre.
The road from Zurich through the Rhône and Mattertal valleys
The drive runs about 240 km and takes roughly three to three and a half hours. From the airport you follow the A1 past Bern, then the A6 toward Thun and Spiez. From here many drivers load the car onto the Lötschberg car-shuttle train through the base tunnel to Goppenstein, emerging in the Rhône valley near Visp; the alternative is the longer road over the pass. At Visp you turn south and climb the winding Mattertal valley road through Stalden, St. Niklaus and Randa, with the valley narrowing and the final stretch noticeably steeper. The road ends at Täsch, since no cars reach Zermatt itself. The last kilometres are single-carriageway with tight curves and occasional rockfall galleries.
Finishing the trip: Täsch terminal and the Zermatt shuttle
Because Zermatt bans combustion vehicles, your private transfer ends at the Matterhorn Terminal in Täsch, where there is a large covered car park. From there the Zermatt Shuttle train departs about every 20 minutes and takes 12 minutes to the village station. Buy the shuttle ticket from the machines inside the terminal before boarding. On arrival in Zermatt, electric taxis and most hotels offer electric minibus pickup at the station — arrange this in advance, as luggage is awkward on foot through the narrow streets. In winter, carry chains or confirm the vehicle is equipped, as the Mattertal road can close briefly after heavy snow. Check Lötschberg car-shuttle running times, since they affect total journey length more than traffic does.
