Drivers leave the terminal onto the airport road and follow it north through the Mwanakwerere and Amani districts, joining the busy corridor past Michenzani's long apartment blocks before reaching the old town's edge. Expect 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic, which builds around Darajani market and the ferry port in mid-morning and late afternoon. The last stretch is the catch: vehicles cannot enter Stone Town's lanes, so cars stop at the nearest accessible point near Forodhani, Kenyatta Road or the seafront, and the final approach to your hotel is on foot with luggage.

Because vehicles stop at the edge of the old town, tell your driver the exact name of your hotel and the nearest landmark or lane so the walk-in point is agreed before arrival; many guesthouses will send a porter if you message ahead. Pack a small case you can wheel or carry over uneven coral paving. Zanzibar is majority Muslim, so keep shoulders and knees covered when walking through residential lanes rather than the seafront. Change some money to Tanzanian shillings for the market and Forodhani stalls, though hotels take card and USD. Friday midday prayers slow movement near the mosques, and the ferry-port area is at its most congested when boats from Dar dock, so allow extra time if you have an onward crossing.
