Sibenik sits at the mouth of the Krka river, and its stone old town climbs the hillside behind the waterfront. From Zadar Airport, near Zemunik Donji inland from the city, the driver joins the A1 motorway and heads southeast toward Split. Most of the journey is fast motorway across the dry karst plateau, with the Velebit mountains visible to the north and low scrub landscape either side. You leave the A1 at the Sibenik exit, then descend on a connecting road toward the coast and the river valley. The final approach into the old town involves narrower one-way streets and limited vehicle access near the cathedral, so many drivers set down at the closest reachable point. If you're staying at Solaris or the Mandalina marina, the route branches off before the centre. Total road time is usually around 50 minutes with light traffic.

Tell your driver in advance exactly where you're staying: the old town, Solaris resort, or the Mandalina marina, because they are handled differently on arrival. Cars cannot reach much of the historic core, which is stepped and pedestrianised, so expect a short walk uphill with your luggage; pack accordingly and wear stable shoes. If your plan is Krka National Park, ask about being dropped at Skradin rather than Sibenik itself, as boats and buses into the park leave from there. The A1 has service areas if you want a stop, but there are none once you exit toward the coast. For cruise passengers, the port is at the base of the old town below the fortresses.
