Door-to-door transfer from Zadar Airport to Omis with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Omis is known for
Omis sits where the Cetina River cuts through the coastal cliffs and meets the sea, about 25 km south of Split. The old town is a tight grid of stone lanes below two hilltop fortresses, Mirabella (Peovica) above the centre and Fortica (Starigrad) higher on the ridge, both linked to the town's pirate history. Velika Plaza is the long shingle-and-sand beach right in town, while Punta and the beaches at Duce and Nemira stretch north and south. Most visitors come in summer: families for the beaches, and active travellers for Cetina River rafting, canyoning, zip-lining across the gorge and rock climbing on the cliffs directly above the harbour. The canyon road inland leads to Radmanove Mlinice, a riverside spot popular for lunch.
The drive south on the A1 motorway
From Zadar Airport the route heads to the A1 motorway and runs south past Sibenik and towards Split for most of the journey. This stretch is fast, inland and mostly through karst terrain and tunnels, with sea views only in patches. Rather than driving into Split, the usual approach leaves the A1 at the Sestanovac exit and drops down through the Cetina valley towards the coast, or continues to Dugopolje and joins the coastal D8 road. The final descent into Omis is the memorable part: a winding drop between steep cliffs to the river mouth. Total road distance is around 200 km and the drive typically takes a little over two hours, longer in July and August when the coastal approach and the single main street through town can slow to a crawl.
Practical notes for arriving in Omis
Omis old town has very narrow, largely pedestrian streets, so a private car will usually set you down at the edge of the centre or near your accommodation's closest accessible point rather than at the door; pack light and confirm the exact drop-off spot with your host. If you are staying in Duce, Nemira, Stanici or Mimice, tell the driver in advance, as these are strung along the coast road several kilometres apart. The Cetina bridge and the main D8 through town are a known summer bottleneck, especially late afternoon, so an earlier arrival slot is smoother. For onward trips, the Brac and Hvar ferries leave from Split, not Omis. Rafting and canyoning operators typically meet clients upriver, so keep booking details and pickup points handy after you arrive.
