Private transfer from Zadar Airport to Makarska
Door-to-door transfer from Zadar Airport to Makarska with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Makarska is known for
Makarska sits below the grey wall of Biokovo mountain, with a curved harbour and a pebble-and-shingle beach that runs from the Sveti Petar peninsula toward the pine woods above Nugal. The old town centres on Kačić Square, the Franciscan monastery with its shell museum, and narrow lanes behind the seafront promenade. Families come in July and August for the shallow, gently shelving beaches; hikers and drivers head up to the Biokovo Nature Park and its glass Skywalk. Nightlife concentrates around the harbour, including the cave clubs Deep and Grota. Many travellers use Makarska as a base for the wider Riviera villages of Brela, Baška Voda, Tučepi and Podgora, all a short drive along the coast.
The drive south from Zadar Airport
Zadar Airport lies inland at Zemunik, so the transfer joins the A1 motorway and heads south past Šibenik and Split's northern bypass. This is fast, easy driving for most of the way, with mountain scenery to the east. The route leaves the A1 near Zagvozd and drops through the Sveti Ilija tunnel, which bores under the Biokovo ridge and delivers you to the coast directly above Makarska. The last stretch is a winding descent with the sea opening out below, and the final approach into town runs along the seafront and into tighter streets near the harbour. Expect roughly two to two and a half hours depending on summer traffic around Split, which is the main bottleneck.
Practical tips for this transfer
Confirm your exact accommodation, because Makarska's seafront and the Riviera villages have hotels spread along several kilometres, and a driver dropping at Brela or Tučepi takes a different final turn than one going to the town centre. Many apartments sit in the streets above the promenade where vehicles cannot reach the door, so agree a meeting point near the harbour or a marked square. In peak summer the Split section of the A1 can clog in the afternoon; an early or late departure avoids the worst. If you plan to visit the Biokovo Skywalk, note the mountain road has a timed-entry and vehicle limit, so it is worth arranging separately rather than expecting a spontaneous detour on the transfer.
