Peschiera del Garda sits at the southern tip of Lake Garda, where the Mincio river drains out of the lake. Its walled old town is built on islands cut by canals, and the star-shaped Venetian fortress is now UNESCO-listed. Families come for the theme parks a few minutes away — Gardaland at Castelnuovo and the Caneva aquapark — while others use the town as a lakefront base with a marina, waterside restaurants and the Lido di Peschiera beach. Summer is the peak, with day-trippers arriving by train on the Milan–Venice line and boats to Sirmione, Lazise and Bardolino. Spring and autumn draw cyclists using the Mincio river path down toward Mantua.

The airport sits just outside Villafranca di Verona, southwest of the city. The route runs almost entirely on the A4 motorway heading west, leaving at the Peschiera del Garda exit. It is flat farmland most of the way — vineyards and open fields rather than hills — so the drive is quick and undramatic, usually around 25 minutes with light traffic. The final stretch drops off the motorway toward the lakefront, where roads narrow near the old town's walls and canals. In peak summer the approach to Gardaland and the town centre can back up, especially on weekend mornings and late afternoons when the parks open and close. The lake itself only comes into view in the last few minutes.

Cars cannot enter the walled old town of Peschiera, so agree on a drop-off point outside the gates near the marina or the station — luggage often has to be wheeled the last stretch over cobbles and small bridges. If your hotel is on the Gardaland or Castelnuovo side, tell the driver, as that is a separate exit from the town centre. For early flights out, note that the town's one-way system and pedestrian zones make the morning pickup slower than the map suggests, so allow extra time in July and August. Passengers connecting to the ferries should be dropped near Piazza Ferdinando di Savoia, where the boat landing and ticket office are. The airport is small, so arrivals pickups are straightforward.
