Salou sits on the Costa Daurada south of Tarragona, and most visitors come for two things: the beaches and PortAventura World. Platja de Llevant is the long central beach backed by the Passeig Jaume I promenade, while quieter coves like Cala Font and Cala Crancs curl around Cap Salou to the south. Families dominate in summer, drawn by PortAventura Park and Ferrari Land, both a few minutes inland. The nightlife strip along Carrer Carles Buïgas fills with younger crowds, while nearby Cambrils and La Pineda offer calmer stays. The Torre Vella and the lit fountains on the seafront are the recognisable landmarks. Spring and early autumn suit walkers and golfers heading to the courses around Reus.

The route runs almost entirely on the AP-7 motorway, heading north up the Mediterranean coast from Valencia Airport at Manises. You'll skirt Castellón, pass the turnoffs for Peníscola and the Ebro delta, then approach Tarragona before the Salou and PortAventura exits. It's a straightforward inland-of-the-coast motorway drive, mostly flat with sea glimpses rather than clifftop bends, and covers roughly 205 kilometres in about two hours and a quarter depending on traffic. The final stretch leaves the motorway and drops through Reus-area roads toward the resort. Salou itself has several distinct zones — seafront, Cap Salou, and the PortAventura side — so the last few minutes depend on exactly where you're staying.

Reus Airport is far closer to Salou, but Valencia often has more flight options and can still make sense for a direct private transfer, especially outside peak season. Tell the driver your exact address: hotels near PortAventura, in central Salou by the promenade, or out at Cap Salou are reached by different exits, and the resort's several entrances matter for luggage-heavy families. If you're heading to the theme parks, ask to be dropped at the correct gate rather than the town centre. Traffic around Tarragona and the resort access roads can slow badly on summer weekends and at park opening and closing times. For late arrivals, confirm the pickup point at Valencia's terminal in advance, as the drive north is long enough that you'll want to set off without delay.
