Cala Finestrat sits on the coast between Benidorm and Villajoyosa, at the southern edge of the Benidorm bay. The Cala del Mal Pas is a small sand-and-shingle cove backed by a seafront promenade lined with fish and paella restaurants, popular with families and couples who want a quieter base than central Benidorm but within walking distance of Poniente beach. Behind it rise apartment blocks and the residential hillsides of Sierra Cortina, home to villas and the Puig Campana and Meliá Villaitana golf courses. Inland, the whitewashed old village of Finestrat clings to the base of the Puig Campana mountain, a favourite with hikers. From Valencia Airport at Manises you loop round the city on the ring roads and pick up the A-7/AP-7 motorway heading south. Almost the entire route is fast dual carriageway through the flat coastal plain past Cullera, Gandia and Dénia, with the mountains of the Marina Alta rising inland. The journey runs a little over two hours in normal traffic. The final stretch leaves the motorway near Benidorm and descends towards the coast on local roads through the Sierra Cortina and La Cala district, where the approach becomes more built-up with roundabouts and resort access roads. The last few streets down to the cove itself are narrow and slope steeply towards the seafront, so drivers usually drop you at the nearest accessible point to your apartment or hotel.

Cala Finestrat is spread across several distinct areas, so give your exact address, not just "Finestrat": the beachfront apartments at Cala del Mal Pas are very different from the hillside urbanisations of Sierra Cortina or the old village 5 km inland. If you are staying in a large complex such as those around Marina Baixa, note the block name and street, as some have multiple entrances. In peak summer the roads down to the promenade and around Benidorm can be slow, so allow extra time for any onward plans. Many restaurants along the cove close mid-afternoon and reopen for dinner. If you plan to visit the old village or hike Puig Campana, a transfer is the simplest option, as parking there is limited and the streets are steep and narrow.
