Sauze d'Oulx sits at around 1,500 metres above the Susa Valley and forms part of the Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area, linked by lifts to Sestriere, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere and Montgenèvre across the French border. It hosted freestyle skiing during the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. The resort has a long reputation for after-ski and evening life, drawing a younger, international crowd — many British visitors — through the winter season. Above the village, Sportinia is a mid-mountain plateau of ski-in restaurants and sun terraces around 2,100 metres. The old borgo, with its narrow stone lanes and small squares, sits above the newer hotels. In summer, walkers and mountain bikers use the same slopes and the trails toward the Assietta ridge.

From Turin Airport (Caselle), the route skirts the north and west of the city to join the A32 motorway toward Bardonecchia and the Fréjus tunnel. The A32 runs the length of the Susa Valley, gaining height gradually through tunnels and long viaducts past Susa and Oulx. You leave the motorway at the Oulx exit, then climb the final stretch on the SP79, a series of switchbacks up the mountainside to the village — the part most passengers notice, especially in snow. The full drive is roughly 95 kilometres and around an hour and a half in clear conditions. Most of it is fast, straightforward motorway; only the last ten to fifteen minutes are winding and slow, and that final climb is where winter driving times can stretch.

Sauze d'Oulx is a compact but steep village, and many hotels sit on lanes that cars can't fully enter, particularly around the old borgo. Have your exact hotel name and street ready, and be prepared for a short walk with luggage from the nearest drop-off point. In winter, allow extra time: the SP79 up from Oulx can be slowed by snow clearing or chain checks, and Saturday changeover days bring heavy resort traffic. Ski and boot bags should be flagged when booking so the right vehicle is sent. If your group is skiing the wider Via Lattea, note that Sestriere and Sansicario are separate drives, not walkable from Sauze. For late flights into Caselle, confirm your pickup covers the full valley run, as the last climb adds time after dark.
