Cortina d Ampezzo — private transfer from Treviso Antonio Canova Airport

What Cortina d'Ampezzo is known for

Cortina sits in the Ampezzo valley, ringed by Dolomite peaks like the Tofane, Cristallo and Faloria. The heart of town is Corso Italia, a pedestrian street lined with shops, cafés and the bell tower beside the Basilica dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo. Winter brings skiers to the Tofana and Faloria lifts and to Cinque Torri and Lagazuoi; summer draws hikers and climbers heading for the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and Lago di Misurina. Cortina hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics and is co-hosting the 2026 Games, so you'll see venues like the sliding centre and ski jump. It's a resort that mixes serious mountain sport with a well-heeled, dress-up-for-dinner crowd, busy over Christmas, February and August.

The drive north through the Dolomites

From Treviso Canova Airport the route heads north on the A27 motorway past Vittorio Veneto toward Belluno, where the fast road ends and you join the SS51, the Alemagna. This carries you up the Piave valley through Pieve di Cadore, San Vito di Cadore and into the Ampezzo basin. The first half is easy motorway driving; the second half is a two-lane mountain road that climbs steadily, with tunnels, valley-floor stretches and a final approach past San Vito where the peaks close in around you. Expect roughly two and a half hours in normal conditions. In winter the upper section can be snowbound, and on peak weekends the SS51 backs up around Cadore, so the timing depends heavily on season and traffic.

Practical tips for this transfer

Cortina's town centre has restricted-traffic zones and narrow streets, so give the driver the exact hotel or chalet name and street; many properties are up in the Pocol, Cademai or Lacedel districts above the centre, on side roads that are easy to miss. In winter, allow extra time and pack boots you can walk in from the drop-off, as snow chains and slower speeds are normal on the SS51. If you're skiing, note which lift base you need — Tofana (Freccia nel Cielo), Faloria or the Socrepes beginner area — since they're spread around the valley. Treviso airport is smaller than Venice Marco Polo, so confirm your flight actually lands there and not at VCE. Book the return with buffer time, because the descent through Cadore is unpredictable on busy days.
