Tivat sits at the inner end of the Bay of Kotor, and most visitors head straight for Porto Montenegro, the yacht marina built on the site of the former Arsenal naval base. Its quays are lined with restaurants, boutiques and the Naval Heritage Collection, where the Cold War-era submarine P-821 is moored. Away from the marina, the town promenade runs past Pine (Belane) beach toward the Seljanovo district. Families use the shallow town beaches in July and August, while sailors and superyacht crews fill the marina from late spring. The old stone village of Gornja Lastva sits on the slopes of Vrmac above town, and the tiny Sveti Marko and Flowers islands lie just offshore in Krtoli.

Tivat Airport sits on the flat coastal strip barely a couple of kilometres south of the town centre, so this is one of the shortest transfers on the whole bay. The route leaves the terminal, joins the main road through the Mažina area and runs level and straight toward the centre and the marina — no mountain passes and no serpentine climbs. Traffic is the only variable: in peak summer the single main road along the waterfront can slow near Porto Montenegro's entrances and the town centre. Expect the whole journey to take under ten minutes in normal conditions. If your accommodation is in Seljanovo or up toward Gornja Lastva, the final stretch narrows and climbs a little.

Because the distance is so short, a private car door-to-door makes most sense when you have luggage, arrive on a late flight, or are staying inside Porto Montenegro, where taxi access to specific berths and buildings can be confusing. Tell your driver the exact building or quay name in the marina, or the hotel and street in Seljanovo, since the complex has several entrances. Tivat handles heavy charter traffic in July and August, and the arrivals area gets busy on summer afternoons; a booked driver waiting outside removes the taxi queue.
