Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport lies west of Tangier, so the route to Tétouan runs around the south of the city and then east. Most drivers use the toll motorway and the N2 corridor, which keeps the journey smooth for the majority of the way. The landscape is inland and rolling at first, with the Rif foothills rising as you approach. The final descent into Tétouan brings you toward the Ensanche and the edge of the medina, where streets narrow and traffic thickens near Place Hassan II. Expect roughly an hour and ten minutes for the full 65 km, longer in summer when beach traffic toward Martil and M'diq builds up on weekends.

If your accommodation is inside the medina, tell the driver in advance: vehicles cannot reach most riads, so agree a drop-off point at one of the gates such as Bab El Okla or near Place Hassan II and walk the rest. For a beach stay at Cabo Negro or Marina Smir, confirm the exact resort entrance, as the complexes have several. Cash in dirhams is useful, as the airport has ATMs but the medina has few. If you are continuing to Chefchaouen, Tétouan is a natural stop, and a driver can hold or continue the same day. Fridays and summer weekends bring the heaviest coastal traffic, so allow extra time for onward beach connections.
