Martil sits at the mouth of the Oued Martil on the Mediterranean, about ten kilometres east of Tétouan. Its long sandy beach and seafront corniche fill up with Moroccan families through July and August, when the town is at its busiest and evenings run late. Just up the coast are Cabo Negro, with the Royal Golf de Cabo Negro, and M'diq with its fishing port and Marina Smir. Out of season Martil is quieter, useful as a coastal base for visiting the whitewashed medina of Tétouan, a UNESCO site. Most visitors here are summer holidaymakers, weekend day-trippers from Tétouan and Tangier, and golfers heading to Cabo Negro. The town itself is low-rise, walkable along the promenade, with cafés and grilled-fish restaurants near the beach.

The airport lies west of Tangier, so the driver picks up the A4 toll motorway that runs south-east toward Tétouan. This is the fastest and smoothest part of the trip: dual carriageway most of the way, passing inland through rolling farmland and low hills with the Rif mountains rising ahead. After roughly an hour you leave the motorway near Tétouan and take the road east toward the coast, dropping gently through the Martil valley to the sea. The final stretch runs into town along the river and the seafront, where the road narrows and traffic thickens in summer. Total driving time is usually around 80 minutes, longer on peak August weekends when the Tétouan–Martil road backs up with beach traffic.

The A4 is a toll road; a private transfer covers the tolls, but it's worth knowing the alternative free road through the hills is slower. Give your driver the exact area of Martil you need — the beachfront corniche, the area near the river bridge, or a residence toward Cabo Negro — because street parking near the promenade is tight in summer and some lanes off the seafront are one-way. If you're staying at Cabo Negro or Marina Smir rather than central Martil, say so when booking, as it adds a few kilometres up the coast. Bring dirhams for coffee and small purchases; card acceptance in seafront cafés is patchy. For early-morning departures, allow extra time in August, when returning beach traffic clogs the road back toward the Tétouan motorway junction.
