Asilah (Arcila) is a small Atlantic town south of Tangier, defined by its whitewashed medina inside Portuguese-era ramparts. The walls run right along the sea, with the Bab al-Bahr gate opening to the water and the old Krikia lookout above the rocks. Every summer the medina walls are repainted with large murals during the arts festival, so the streets change look year to year. Families and day-trippers come mainly in July and August for Paradise Beach (Plage Paradis), a sandy stretch a few kilometres south reached by a short track through dunes. Off-season the town is quiet, with fish grills near the port and cafés along the Avenue Hassan II. It suits travellers wanting a calm coastal base rather than nightlife.

The route is almost entirely motorway. From Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport you join the A1 heading south toward Rabat, running slightly inland through low farmland and eucalyptus stands, with the Atlantic occasionally visible to the west. There is a toll section on this stretch, which the driver handles. After roughly 40 minutes you take the Asilah exit and drop onto a shorter local road into town. The final approach is flat and straightforward — no mountain passes or tight switchbacks — until you reach the edge of the medina, where streets narrow and cars cannot enter the walled old town itself. Total driving time is usually around 45 minutes for the 45 km, longer on summer weekends when the exit and seafront fill with beach traffic.

Give your driver the name of your riad, hotel or the nearest medina gate rather than just "Asilah", because vehicles stop at the ramparts and the rest is on foot over cobbles — pack light or bring a bag you can carry. If you are staying inside the walls, arrange to meet a host at Bab Homar or Bab al-Bahr. The Asilah–Tanger–Med railway station is a couple of kilometres from the centre, so a private transfer avoids the taxi relay from the station. For a beach day, ask to be dropped at Plage Paradis instead of the town. During the summer arts festival accommodation books out early and traffic near the seafront slows, so allow extra time for airport pickups going the other direction.
