What Primosten is known for
Primosten sits on a small peninsula linked to the mainland by a short causeway, with the old town climbing to the Church of St. George (Sveti Juraj) at the top and narrow stone lanes fanning out below. Most visitors come in summer for the two Raduca beaches — Velika Raduca and Mala Raduca — on the sandy-shingle bay just north of the centre. The town is also known for Babić red wine grown in the dry-stone-walled Bucavac vineyards on the surrounding hills. ACI Marina Kremik, just south, draws sailors, while the long-running Aurora Club on the edge of town is a summer nightlife fixture. Rogoznica and Šibenik are both short drives away.
The drive from Split Airport to Primosten
Split Airport is at Kaštela, between Trogir and Split, so Primosten lies west along the coast rather than through the city — you avoid Split's traffic entirely. Most drivers take the A1 motorway inland for the fast middle section, then drop down to the D8 Adriatic highway near Šibenik and follow the coast south to Primosten. An alternative keeps to the D8 the whole way, slower but with sea views. Either route runs around 55 kilometres and takes roughly 45 minutes in normal conditions. The final approach descends toward the peninsula, and the old-town streets are too narrow and stepped for cars, so drop-offs are made at the edge of the centre or directly at hotels on the Raduca side.
Practical tips for this transfer
Tell your driver in advance whether you are staying in the old town or on the Raduca peninsula, as these are different drop-off points and the historic core has no vehicle access. If you land in July or August, the D8 through and around Primosten and Šibenik can be slow at peak arrival times, so allow extra buffer. Many apartments here are up steep lanes — pack light or expect a short walk with luggage from the nearest car access. Larger supermarkets sit on the mainland side near the causeway rather than in the old town, useful for a first-night stock-up. If you plan day trips to Krka National Park or Šibenik, confirm return timing when booking, as public transport onward from Primosten is limited.
