Murter is a small island in the Šibenik-Knin region, linked to the mainland by a low drawbridge at Tisno rather than a ferry. The main town, also called Murter, has Slanica, the island's best-known sand-and-pebble beach, plus Marina Hramina. Betina, next door, is famous for its wooden gajeta boat-building tradition, while Jezera and Tisno sit further along. Most summer visitors come because Murter is the closest launch point for boat trips into Kornati National Park, so the harbours fill with tour skippers and charter yachts from June to September. Tisno also draws a festival crowd to The Garden. Off-season it's quiet, with a small resident population and family-run konobas rather than big resorts.

Split Airport sits at Kaštela, on the Trogir side, which puts you on the correct half of the coast for Murter. The route runs northwest, either along the D8 Adriatic road or via the A1 motorway toward the Šibenik/Vodice exits, then down through Pirovac to Tisno. The final stretch is coastal and passes small towns before you cross the Tisno drawbridge onto the island itself. Expect roughly an hour. Once on Murter the roads narrow, and reaching Slanica beach or the far end of Jezera means slower village driving. If you're heading to a marina berth or a Kornati boat, tell the driver the specific harbour, as Murter town, Betina and Jezera each have their own waterfront.

The Tisno drawbridge opens on a fixed daily schedule to let boats through, which briefly stops road traffic on and off the island; in peak summer this can add a short wait, so allow a little slack if you have a Kornati boat or ferry connection to catch. If you're arriving for a festival at Tisno, expect heavier local traffic and ask to be dropped as close to the site as vehicles are allowed. Many accommodations are private apartments on narrow lanes with limited car access, so share a pin location in advance. Stock up on groceries in Vodice or Pirovac on the way if you're self-catering, as island shops are smaller and close earlier out of season.
