What Biograd na Moru is known for
Biograd na Moru is a former medieval Croatian royal town on a small peninsula between Zadar and Šibenik. It draws sailing crowds to Marina Kornati and Marina Šangulin, both jumping-off points for the Kornati islands and the channel between Pašman and Ugljan. A car ferry runs across to Tkon on Pašman. Families come for the shallow Soline and Dražica beaches and the Ilirija hotel complex, while day-trippers use Biograd as a base for Vransko jezero (Vrana Lake) Nature Park and the villages of Pakoštane and Sveti Filip i Jakov just along the coast. The compact old town, with its stone lanes and seafront promenade, fills mainly from June to September; outside that window it is quiet and residential.
The drive from Split Airport to Biograd
Split Airport sits at Resnik near Trogir, on the coastal side of the region. The quickest route climbs inland to join the A1 motorway and runs northwest toward Zadar, leaving at the Benkovac or Pirovac area before dropping back down to the coast at Biograd. It is motorway for most of the way, so the ride is smooth and largely straight, with the Velebit range visible inland. Expect roughly an hour in normal conditions. The alternative is the older D8 Adriatic coastal road, which is slower and winding but passes through Šibenik and the seaside towns; some passengers prefer it for the views. The final approach into Biograd is on flat ground, ending in the town's narrow one-way streets near the marinas.
Practical tips for this route
If you are heading straight to a boat charter, tell your driver which marina — Kornati and Šangulin are close but have separate entrances and parking, and confused drop-offs cost time when you have a departure slot. Old-town accommodation often can't be reached by car, so ask to be set down at the nearest access point and expect a short walk with luggage over stone paving. In July and August the coastal stretch and the town's few entry roads back up in the late afternoon; an earlier or later transfer avoids the worst. If your plan includes the Tkon ferry to Pašman, note it is a separate crossing with its own schedule and summer queues. Carry water — the A1 has limited service stops on this section.
