Private transfer from Seville Airport to Tavira
Door-to-door transfer from Seville Airport to Tavira with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Tavira is like when you arrive
Tavira sits on the eastern Algarve, split by the Gilão river and crossed by a low arched bridge near the old town. The centre is a maze of tiled streets climbing to the castle walls and the Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo. Most visitors come for the barrier islands of the Ria Formosa: a short ferry from Quatro Águas reaches Ilha de Tavira, while Praia do Barril, with its anchor cemetery, is reached by a small train across the salt marsh from Pedras d'el Rei. Families and couples dominate in summer; birdwatchers and walkers prefer spring and autumn around the salt pans and lagoons. Nearby Cabanas de Tavira and the Benamor golf course draw quieter, longer-stay guests.
The drive west along the A-49 and A-22
The route runs almost entirely on motorway. From Seville Airport you skirt the city and pick up the A-49 heading west toward Huelva, passing farmland and the flat marisma country of the lower Guadalquivir. Near Ayamonte you cross the Guadiana International Bridge into Portugal, where the road becomes the A-22 (Via do Infante). This inland toll road runs parallel to the coast through low hills and cork oak land, bypassing Vila Real de Santo António and Faro's eastern approaches. You leave the motorway at the Tavira exit and drop down toward the river and town. The terrain stays gentle throughout — no mountain passes or winding sections — and the whole trip is usually around two hours, traffic depending, with the final few minutes on ordinary town roads.
Practical points for this route
Two things catch travellers out. First, Portugal runs one hour behind Spain, so set your watch back as you cross the Guadiana — pickups and check-ins are quoted in local time. Second, the A-22 is an electronic toll road with no booths; a private transfer handles this, but it's worth confirming so there's no surprise charge. Bring euros — both countries use them, so no currency change is needed. If you're staying inside Tavira's old town, ask the driver about the drop-off point, as several riverside streets near the Roman bridge are pedestrian or very narrow. For Cabanas de Tavira or the island beaches, note the ferry and marsh-train timetables are seasonal and reduced outside summer.
