It draws families and retirees, many of them long-stay British and northern European visitors, plus walkers who pick up the coastal footpath toward Burgau and Salema. Summer is busy but the pace stays calm compared with Albufeira. Spring and autumn are popular for golf at nearby Boavista and for hiking, and the village keeps a residential feel year-round rather than emptying out completely in winter.

The route runs almost entirely on motorway. You leave Seville on the A-49 heading west toward Huelva, crossing the Guadiana river at the international bridge near Ayamonte, where you pass into Portugal and change time zone by one hour. From there you continue on the A22 (Via do Infante), the toll motorway that runs the length of the Algarve. The landscape is flat coastal plain and gentle farmland for most of the way, not mountain roads. You leave the A22 near Lagos and take shorter local roads down toward the coast, with the final approach into Praia da Luz being narrower and slightly winding as the village drops toward the sea. Total driving time is usually around three hours plus, depending on border and Lagos traffic.

Two things matter most on this route. First, the time change: Portugal is one hour behind mainland Spain, so set expectations for arrival by local Algarve time, not Seville time. Second, the A22 uses electronic tolls with no cash booths; a licensed transfer vehicle handles this automatically, so you don't stop or pay at a barrier. Praia da Luz has no single resort gate, but several accommodation clusters spread across small hillside streets above the beach, so have your exact address or villa name ready, as house numbering can be confusing to find. If you're arriving in high summer, the narrow streets near the seafront fill with parked cars, so a drop-off point slightly uphill is normal. Keep passports or ID accessible for the border crossing.
