What La Cala de Mijas is known for
La Cala de Mijas is a low-key coastal town in the Mijas municipality, sitting on the sand between Fuengirola and Marbella. Its long promenade runs past beaches like La Butibamba and Torrenueva, marked by the restored coastal watchtower near the centre. Golfers form a big share of visitors, drawn to La Cala Resort's three courses (América, Asia and Europa) inland, plus Calanova, Santana and El Chaparral nearby. Families come in summer for the wide, gently shelving beaches and beach bars; northern-European residents keep the town active in winter. Mijas Pueblo, the whitewashed hill village with its donkey taxis and bullring, is a short drive up the slope. The core stays smaller and quieter than Fuengirola, which is why many repeat visitors choose it.
The drive from Seville down to the coast
This is a long inland-to-coast run of roughly 225 km, usually around two and a half hours. From Seville Airport you join the A-92 east across the countryside toward Antequera, climbing gradually through open farmland and olive country. Past Antequera the route drops onto the AP-46/A-45 down the hills toward Málaga, the most scenic stretch as the coast opens up below. You then swing west onto the A-7/AP-7 coastal motorway, passing Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola before the La Cala de Mijas exits. It is motorway almost the entire way, so the ride is smooth until the final few minutes, when you leave the A-7 and drop through the town's grid of streets toward the seafront and the resorts spread along the hillside.

Practical tips for this specific route
Because the trip crosses the whole of inland Andalusia, treat it as a real journey, not a short hop: use the airport toilets before setting off, as service areas near Antequera are the main stop. If you are heading to La Cala Resort or the golf courses rather than the seafront, note the exact urbanisation and course name (América, Asia or Europa) — the resort sits inland off the town, not on the promenade, and entrances are spread out. Beachfront apartments often lack clear numbers, so a pin location or the nearest chiringuito name helps the driver. Friday and Sunday afternoons back up around Málaga and Fuengirola in summer; an earlier or later slot avoids the worst. For winter arrivals, evenings get dark and cool quickly once you leave the coast, so keep a jacket accessible.
