A boardwalk leads east to Algar Seco's carved rock arches and pools. The route leaves Seville on the A-49 motorway heading west past Huelva, then crosses the Guadiana River on the international bridge into Portugal, where the road becomes the A-22 (Via do Infante). This is fast, straightforward motorway for almost the entire journey, running inland and roughly parallel to the coast. You exit near Lagoa and drop south on the local road into Carvoeiro, where the pace changes sharply as you enter the town's steep, one-way old streets down to the seafront. Total road distance is around 300 km and driving time is usually a little over three hours. One thing passengers often miss: Portugal is one hour behind Spain, so your arrival clock time is earlier than the elapsed time suggests.

Carry your passport or ID even though the border is open — checks are occasional. The A-22 in Portugal is an electronic toll road with no booths; a private transfer handles this for you, but if you later rent a car you'll need to register the plate. Adjust your phone clock for the hour change and confirm your check-in time in Portuguese local time. Many Carvoeiro properties are villas and small aparthotels above the town or in the golf resorts, sometimes on unnamed lanes, so share a pin location or the villa name and street with your driver in advance. In peak summer the narrow streets down to the beach can be closed to traffic, so agree a drop-off point near the top of town if you're staying centrally.
