Private transfer from Salzburg Airport to Lech am Arlberg
Door-to-door transfer from Salzburg Airport to Lech am Arlberg with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Lech am Arlberg is known for
Lech sits at around 1,450 metres in Vorarlberg and is one of Austria's higher-end winter resorts, linked by the Flexenbahn lift to Zürs, Stuben and St. Anton as part of the Arlberg ski area. Skiers come for the Weißer Ring circuit and the snow-sure slopes above Oberlech, a car-free hamlet reached by cable car. The smaller settlements of Zug and Oberlech hold some of the most sought-after chalets and restaurants. Winter is the main season, running roughly December to April, but summer brings hikers to the Green Ring trails and the Lechweg long-distance path that starts near the village. Most visitors are returning guests, families and well-off skiers rather than day-trippers.
The drive from Salzburg across the Arlberg
The route runs west for most of its length and crosses briefly into Germany. From the airport you join the A8 towards Rosenheim, then the A93 south to Kufstein and back into Austria on the A12 Inntal motorway, following the valley past Innsbruck and on towards Imst and Landeck. This part is fast, flat motorway. The character changes near St. Anton, where the road climbs onto the B198 Flexenpass, a winding mountain stretch with avalanche galleries and tunnels that passes Zürs before dropping into Lech. Expect roughly two and a half hours in good conditions. The final climb is slow, with hairpins and, in winter, snow banks and chains territory the driver will be prepared for.
Practical points for this transfer
Check whether your accommodation is in Lech village, Zug, Oberlech or Zürs, as the driver's approach differs and Oberlech is partly car-free. In heavy snow the Flexenpass can close temporarily; the alternative via the Arlberg road tunnel and Stuben adds time, so allow a buffer if you have an evening dinner reservation. Winter tyres and chains are standard on this route and a professional driver will carry them. Lech enforces a quieter resort atmosphere, and some streets restrict large vehicle access, so a drop-off point near your hotel is worth confirming in advance. For early flights out of Salzburg, factor the full mountain descent before the motorway; the first part of the journey is the slowest.
