The final approach into town is slower, with roundabouts and 30 km/h zones near the pedestrian old town. In winter the higher sections can carry packed snow, so the last part of the journey is often the most deliberate.

During Hahnenkamm race week in January, road closures and heavy crowds add time, so allow extra margin for your return airport run. If you land at Salzburg with ski gear, confirm luggage space in advance. Winter arrivals should expect a slower final descent and pack for the walk between the drop-off and a pedestrianised address. In summer, if you're heading to the Schwarzsee or one of the golf courses rather than the centre, mention it so the driver takes the correct valley exit and avoids the old-town core.
