Private transfer from Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport to Positano
Door-to-door transfer from Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport to Positano with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Positano is like when you arrive
Positano stacks its pastel houses down a steep hillside, so almost everything is reached on foot via long flights of steps rather than roads. The main beach, Spiaggia Grande, sits below the church of Santa Maria Assunta with its majolica dome; the quieter Fornillo beach is a short walk west along the Via Positanesi d'America. Most visitors come between May and September, and the town fills with couples, day-trippers arriving by ferry from Amalfi and Sorrento, and hikers finishing the Sentiero degli Dei from Nocelle above. Boutiques selling linen and sandals line the Via dei Mulini down to the marina, where boats leave for Li Galli islands and the Emerald Grotto. In winter many hotels and restaurants close entirely.
The drive along the Amalfi Coast road
The airport sits at Pontecagnano, east of Salerno. Drivers usually take the motorway west past Salerno and Vietri sul Mare, then join the SS163 Amalfitana. This is the coast road you've seen in photographs: two narrow lanes cut into the cliff, tight blind bends, and long stretches where buses and cars must take turns. You pass through Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Praiano before the final descent into Positano. Expect around 105 minutes, longer in July and August when the road backs up. An alternative route crosses inland over the Agerola pass toward the Sorrento side and drops down through Montepertuso. Either way the last kilometres are slow and winding, so travellers prone to car sickness should sit in front and keep water handy.
Practical tips for this transfer
Cars cannot reach most hotels in Positano. The one-way road (Via Cristoforo Colombo becoming Via Pasitea and Via dei Mulini) has a single drop-off zone near the top by the Chiesa Nuova and another lower down at Piazza dei Mulini; from either you'll likely climb or descend steps with luggage. Confirm your exact hotel and its nearest access point when booking, and pack light or use a soft bag that porters can carry. In peak season, ZTL restrictions and one-way flow mean your driver may only stop briefly. Ferries from Salerno's Molo Manfredi are an option in summer but don't run in bad weather or off-season, which is why a road transfer is more reliable. Ask your driver about a stop for photos at the Praiano viewpoints along the way.
