Crikvenica sits on the Kvarner coast and is one of the few Croatian resorts with a genuine sandy town beach (Gradsko kupalište), which makes it a long-standing favourite with families in July and August. The resort runs into its neighbours along one continuous seafront promenade: Dramalj and Jadranovo to the north, Selce to the south. Behind the coast rises the Vinodol valley, and Novi Vinodolski with its Frankopan hilltop castle is a short drive away. The town built its reputation on a mild, health-oriented climate and older sanatoria, so you'll find a calmer, walking-and-swimming crowd rather than heavy nightlife. Spring and autumn draw cyclists and hikers heading up towards the Vinodol backcountry.

Rijeka Airport is on the island of Krk, so the transfer starts by driving north across the Krk Bridge, the long arched span that links the island to the mainland — worth watching for on the right-hand side as you cross the Bakar bay. From there the route joins the coastal D8 Adriatic highway and heads south through Kraljevica and past Šmrika, following the shoreline with the sea on your right and the mainland hills climbing on the left. The road is mostly two-lane and winds gently around inlets rather than running as a fast motorway, so the pace is steady. The final approach drops down into Crikvenica along the seafront. Expect roughly 40 kilometres and around three quarters of an hour.

Crikvenica's seafront is long and split between Dramalj, central Crikvenica and Selce, and the promenade zone is partly pedestrianised, so some accommodation can only be reached to the nearest vehicle drop-off point rather than the door. If you're staying near the central beach, mention it — parking there is tight in summer. The Krk Bridge carries a toll, which is handled as part of a private transfer rather than something you sort out at a booth. Traffic on the D8 backs up on peak summer weekends, particularly around Kraljevica, so allow extra time for a flight check-in on the return. For evening arrivals, note that the coastal road is unlit in stretches but perfectly straightforward for a local driver.
