What Torrevieja is known for
Torrevieja sits on the southern Costa Blanca between two salt lagoons, Las Salinas and La Mata, which turn pink in summer and are part of a protected natural park. The town draws long-stay northern European residents and Spanish holidaymakers, with a large marina, the Paseo Marítimo, and beaches like Playa del Cura, Playa de los Locos and Playa de la Mata. The Sunday market near the harbour is one of the biggest on the coast. Families come for the shallow bathing and the Aquopolis water park; others use Torrevieja as a base for golf at nearby Villamartín and La Finca. The old centre around Calle Ramón Gallud is compact and walkable, busiest from June to September and quieter but mild through winter.
The drive from Corvera to the coast
Región de Murcia International Airport sits inland at Corvera, southeast of Murcia city. The route to Torrevieja runs mostly on fast roads: you leave the airport toward the RM-1 and connect to the AP-7 motorway heading north along the coast, or take the N-332 for the final coastal stretch. The terrain is flat and dry farmland at first, opening onto the lagoons as you approach town. Expect around 50 minutes for roughly 70 kilometres, most of it at motorway speed with little climbing or winding. The last few kilometres slow down as you enter Torrevieja's grid of streets, and the seafront and marina area can be congested in July and August, so the final approach to a specific address usually takes longer than the open road.
Practical tips for this transfer
Give your driver the exact urbanisation or street, not just "Torrevieja": the town spreads into large developments like La Siesta, Los Balcones, Aguas Nuevas and El Chaparral, and neighbouring Orihuela Costa areas such as Punta Prima and La Zenia are often described loosely as Torrevieja. Many holiday complexes have several gates, so note your block or entrance number. If you're heading to a marina restaurant or the Sunday market, ask to be dropped near the Paseo Vista Alegre rather than in the pedestrian core. Don't confuse this airport with Alicante–Elche, which is closer to Torrevieja from the north; confirm your booking is from Corvera. Supermarkets like Consum and Mercadona are near most residential zones if you want a first stop before checking in.
