Gregorio Luperón International (POP) sits on the coast east of Puerto Plata, so the run to Playa Dorada is short and almost entirely flat coastal driving. You leave the airport and follow the main Puerto Plata road westward, keeping the sea to your right for much of the way. The road is a straightforward two-lane highway through low scrub and roadside development rather than mountains, so there's no winding climb. The whole trip is usually around 15 kilometres and takes roughly 20 minutes in normal traffic. The final stretch turns off the highway into the resort access road, where you pass the security gate before reaching the hotels. Traffic can slow near Puerto Plata's outskirts at peak times, and afternoon rain showers are common in the wet months.

Know your exact hotel name before arrival: Playa Dorada has many separate properties sharing one internal road, and giving the driver the specific hotel avoids circling the loop. If your booking is for a hotel in neighbouring Costa Dorada or Cofresí, say so, as these are outside the main gate and often confused with Playa Dorada. The complex is compact enough to walk between the plaza, beach and most hotels, so you won't need a car once you arrive. For the return, build in buffer time: POP is close, but check-in queues for international flights can be long during winter peak. If you plan a day trip to Ocean World in Cofresí or the cable car, arrange the driver in advance rather than relying on taxis at the gate.
