What Prčanj is like on the Bay of Kotor
Prčanj sits on the western shore of the Bay of Kotor, a strung-out waterfront village between Muo and Stoliv, a few kilometres past Kotor's old town. It has no sandy beach: people swim from stone jetties and concrete platforms along the promenade. The landmark is the huge neoclassical church of the Birth of Our Lady (Bogorodičin Hram), visible from the water and reached by a long stone staircase. Prčanj was a sailors' village, and its old captains' houses and small chapels line the road. Visitors here are mostly people renting apartments and villas for a quiet bay stay, plus day-trippers walking the shoreline path. Summer is busiest; spring and autumn suit walkers who want calm water and a short drive into Kotor for restaurants and markets.
The drive from Podgorica Airport to Prčanj
From Podgorica Airport the route runs west, usually via the Sozina tunnel toward the coast and then round to Kotor, or over the Cetinje mountain road with its long serpentine descent above the bay. Either way the last stretch is winding, and the section above Kotor gives wide views down onto the water. Reaching Prčanj means driving into Kotor and then continuing along the narrow bay road westward through Muo. This shoreline road is single-lane in places, squeezed between old houses and the water, with parked cars and pedestrians. It's slow but short. Budget around an hour and three quarters in normal conditions; add time in July and August, when traffic through Kotor and along the bay backs up badly, especially near the old town entrance and the cruise-ship period.
Practical tips for arriving in Prčanj
Give your driver the exact house name or the nearest landmark — the church, the school, or a named restaurant — because Prčanj addresses are strung along one road and hard to find otherwise. Many properties sit above the road up steep steps, so tell the company in advance if you have heavy luggage or limited mobility; the car often can't pull right to the door. Parking on the bay road is very tight, so a drop-off is quicker than trying to self-drive. If you arrive on a late flight, note that Kotor's restaurants and shops close earlier than the summer nightlife suggests, so consider buying essentials before leaving Podgorica or asking your host. For day trips, Kotor's old town, Perast and the Our Lady of the Rocks boats are all a short ride away.
