Private transfer from Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport to Lucca
Door-to-door transfer from Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport to Lucca with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Lucca is known for inside its walls
Lucca sits behind intact Renaissance ramparts, the Mura di Lucca, wide enough to walk or cycle the full loop on top — a favourite of families and runners. Inside, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro follows the oval of a Roman amphitheatre, and the Torre Guinigi still has holm oaks growing from its roof. Via Fillungo is the main shopping street, leading to San Michele in Foro and the Cattedrale di San Martino. Lucca is Giacomo Puccini's birthplace, and opera fans combine it with the summer festival at nearby Torre del Lago. Autumn brings Lucca Comics & Games, when the whole city fills up. Day-trippers arrive year-round; villa-lovers head out to Villa Reale di Marlia and Villa Torrigiani in the surrounding countryside.
The drive from Pisa airport to Lucca
The route runs inland and stays flat almost the whole way. From the airport you join the main corridor toward the A11 Firenze–Mare motorway, then head east across the plain past Pisa's outskirts and open farmland toward Lucca. It's roughly 25 km and usually about 30 minutes, most of it on fast, straightforward road with no mountain sections. The final approach follows the ring road that circles the city walls, so you'll see the ramparts and the tree-lined boulevard on top before you reach a gate. Cars can't drive freely inside the walls, so drop-offs happen at one of the gates — Porta Santa Maria, Porta San Pietro or Porta Elisa — depending on where you're staying.
Practical tips for this transfer
The historic centre is a ZTL (limited traffic zone), so your driver will stop at the nearest gate to your accommodation rather than the front door — tell us the address in advance so we pick the right gate and shortest walk. Streets inside are narrow and paved; pack light or use luggage with sturdy wheels. If you arrive during Lucca Comics & Games in early November or on opera-festival weekends, allow extra time, as the ring road and gates get congested. For day trips onward to Garfagnana, Barga or the Puccini sites at Torre del Lago, arrange the return in advance since taxis are scarce at the gates. Buy a wall-top bike rental early in the day — the loop is about four kilometres.
