What Pernera is like on Cyprus's southeast coast
Pernera sits just north of Protaras, within the Paralimni district on the island's southeastern tip. It's a low-key resort strip built around a small fishing harbour, with a string of sheltered coves rather than one big beach: Pernera Beach, Kalamies and Louma are all within a short walk of each other. Families make up most of the visitors, drawn by shallow water and calm bays in summer, while Fig Tree Bay in neighbouring Protaras and the coastal path towards Cape Greco pull in walkers. Ayia Napa's nightlife is 15 minutes down the road for those who want it, but Pernera itself stays quiet. The area is busiest from May to October and largely winds down in winter, when many tavernas and hotels close.
The drive across southern Cyprus from Paphos
This is one of the longest airport transfers on the island, crossing Cyprus almost coast to coast. From Paphos Airport the route joins the A6 motorway eastbound, running along the coast past Limassol, then continues on the A1 toward Larnaca. Beyond Larnaca you pick up the A3, which sweeps around the airport and heads for Ayia Napa and Protaras before the final local roads into Pernera. It's motorway for nearly the whole way, so the journey is smooth and mostly flat, with sea views on the Limassol stretch and dry inland scenery afterwards. Expect around two hours and fifteen minutes without stops. The last few kilometres slow down as you leave the A3 for the resort's narrower streets and hotel entrances.
Practical tips for the Paphos–Pernera transfer
Because the drive is long, agree a pickup point clearly: Pernera's hotels sit on similar-looking side streets off the main coastal road, and several share names with Protaras properties, so give the full hotel name and street. If you land late, note that most airlines into Paphos arrive in the evening, and there are no direct public buses to Pernera — a private transfer avoids a change in Larnaca or Ayia Napa. Bring water for the journey; the inland stretch after Larnaca has few stops. If you want a break, the service area near Larnaca is the logical midpoint. For return trips, allow extra time in July and August, when traffic through Protaras and Ayia Napa slows the local roads before you reach the motorway.
