Private transfer from Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport to Palau
Door-to-door transfer from Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport to Palau with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
Why travellers head to Palau
Palau sits on Sardinia's Gallura coast and works mainly as the ferry port for the La Maddalena archipelago — boats leave regularly for La Maddalena island and Caprera, so day-trippers and island-hoppers pass through constantly in summer. The granite headland just east holds the Roccia dell'Orso, a wind-carved rock shaped like a bear, and above the town the Fortezza di Monte Altura gives views over the strait. Families base themselves at beaches like Spiaggia delle Saline and Porto Faro, while windsurfers and kitesurfers head a few kilometres west to Porto Pollo, one of the best-known spots in the Mediterranean for those sports. The small harbour and the streets around the marina fill up from June to September and stay much quieter off-season.
The drive from Olbia airport to Palau
The route runs north for roughly 40 kilometres and normally takes about 45 minutes. You leave the airport on the SS125 towards Arzachena, then continue on the SS133 for the final stretch into Palau. Most of the way is a fast, well-surfaced main road through the inland Gallura — a landscape of granite outcrops, cork oaks and low scrub rather than continuous coastline. The sea only comes into view near the end as you approach the town and the strait. Traffic is generally light, but the Arzachena area and the approach to Palau can slow in July and August, when Costa Smeralda and island-ferry traffic converge. The final descent into Palau brings you down towards the marina and the ferry terminal.
Practical tips for this transfer
If your real destination is La Maddalena or Caprera, tell the driver so you're dropped at the ferry terminal on Via del Molo rather than in the upper town — the crossing to La Maddalena takes about 15 minutes and boats run frequently in season, but the last sailings are earlier out of summer, so check the timetable before booking a late flight. Palau's centre and marina have limited parking and some narrow one-way streets, so a private car that drops you directly is far easier than driving yourself. If you're staying at Porto Pollo, Porto Rafael or Punta Sardegna, give the exact address, as these are separate coastal pockets a few kilometres outside the town rather than in Palau itself. Bring water and sun cover for summer arrivals.
