Private transfer from Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport to Castelsardo
Door-to-door transfer from Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport to Castelsardo with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Castelsardo is known for
Castelsardo sits on a rocky headland above the Gulf of Asinara, in the Anglona region of northwest Sardinia. Its old town climbs steeply to the Castello dei Doria, which now houses the Museo dell'Intreccio Mediterraneo, dedicated to the basket-weaving the town is famous for. The Cathedral of Sant'Antonio Abate stands at the sea edge. Below, the marina and the Lu Bagnu district hold most hotels and the town beaches. It is a day-trip and short-stay base rather than a resort strip, popular with couples and older travellers in spring and autumn, and busier with families in July and August. Nearby is the Roccia dell'Elefante, a wind-carved rock beside the road toward Sedini with prehistoric tombs cut into it.
The drive across northern Sardinia
The route runs east to west across the top of the island, so you cross the interior rather than following the coast. From the airport you join the SS729 dual carriageway toward Sassari, the fastest and least eventful part of the journey, through low hills and farmland. Before Sassari the road turns north toward the Anglona coast, past Sennori and the turn for Sedini, then descends toward the Gulf of Asinara. The final stretch along the SS200 is coastal, with the headland and castle of Castelsardo visible ahead as you approach. Expect roughly an hour and three quarters. The last approach into the town itself narrows and climbs, and the historic centre is largely pedestrian, so vehicles stop at the lower town or marina.
Planning your transfer to Castelsardo
Confirm exactly where you are staying: an address in the old town usually means the driver drops you at the nearest accessible point below the walls, and you finish on foot up narrow lanes and stairs, so pack light or bring a small case. Hotels in Lu Bagnu and around the marina have normal road access and parking. Because the road does not hug the coast, there are few natural stops en route, but a driver can pause at the Roccia dell'Elefante near Multeddu if you ask in advance. If you plan day trips to Alghero, the Castelsardo coast or Isola Rossa, note these are separate directions from the town, not on the airport road. Off-season, many restaurants and museum hours reduce, so check opening times before arrival.
