Mougins sits on a hill just north of Cannes, built as a spiral of narrow lanes around the old village (Vieux Village), which is closed to through traffic. It has a long reputation for food: Le Moulin de Mougins, once Roger Vergé's kitchen, and a cluster of restaurants around Place du Commandant Lamy draw people up here specifically to eat. Picasso spent his last years at Notre-Dame-de-Vie, a chapel and villa on the eastern edge. Golfers come for Royal Mougins Golf Club and the Golf de Cannes-Mougins. Below the village, the Étang de Fontmerle fills with lotus flowers in July and August. It's a quieter, residential base for people who want to be near Cannes without staying on the coast.

The route is almost entirely motorway. From the airport you join the A8 heading west toward Cannes and Aix-en-Provence, running inland behind the coast rather than along it. After passing the Antibes and Villeneuve-Loubet junctions you leave at exit 42 (Mougins), then take the D6285 and local roads up toward the village. Most of the trip is fast, level driving; the character changes only in the last few kilometres, where the road winds uphill through wooded residential areas. If your accommodation is in the Vieux Village itself, the final approach is on tight, one-way lanes and the historic centre is pedestrian, so the drop-off point is usually a car park just outside. In normal traffic the whole journey takes around 35 minutes.

Tell your driver in advance whether you're staying in the old village, in a residential quarter like Mougins-le-Haut, or at a golf resort, because these are several kilometres apart and served by different exits. For the Vieux Village, expect to walk the last stretch with luggage from a parking area such as Parking des Écoles, as vehicles can't reach most doors. Golf resorts and larger villas usually have gated entrances where the driver can pull right up. The A8 backs up on summer weekends and around Cannes during the film festival in May and MIPIM in spring, so allow extra time for outbound airport runs then. There are few taxis waiting in Mougins itself, so pre-booking the return leg is worth it rather than hoping to flag one.
