Where you're heading in Monaco and Monte-Carlo
Monaco is small enough to cross on foot but stacked into tight terraces, so knowing your district matters. Monte-Carlo holds the Casino de Monte-Carlo, the Hôtel de Paris and the Café de Paris around Place du Casino. Port Hercule, the main marina, fills with superyachts and hosts the Grand Prix paddock each May. The Larvotto district has Monaco's main beach and the newer Mareterra extension. La Condamine sits by the port with its market at Place d'Armes, while Monaco-Ville, the old town on the Rock, holds the Prince's Palace and the Oceanographic Museum. Business visitors, Grand Prix and Yacht Show crowds, and residents heading home all use this route year-round, with a clear peak from May to September.
The A8 and coastal approach from Nice Airport
The drive runs about 30 km east and normally takes around 40 minutes. From the airport the car joins the A8 motorway, climbing inland above Nice and Èze through tunnels and viaducts, then exits toward Monaco. The final descent into the principality is steep and winding, dropping through hillside tunnels before reaching the port and the lower districts. Traffic is the main variable: the stretch near the Monaco exit and along the seafront can crawl during Grand Prix week in May, the Yacht Show in September, and summer weekend evenings. An alternative is the Basse Corniche (the coastal road through Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu and Cap-d'Ail), slower but scenic if the motorway is blocked.

Practical tips for arriving in Monaco
Give your driver the exact hotel or building name, not just "Monte-Carlo": the principality is a maze of one-way streets and multi-level access, and hotels like the Hermitage or Fairmont have entrances on different levels. During Grand Prix week many streets close for the circuit and drop-off points move, so confirm access in advance. If you're staying near the Casino, note that Place du Casino is partly pedestrian and cars are directed to nearby ramps. Have your passport handy—Monaco is a separate state, though there are no routine border checks from France. For yachts, ask to be dropped at the correct quay on Port Hercule, as the port has several. Parking is scarce, so a door-to-door transfer avoids the underground garage hunt.
