Alassio sits on the Ligurian coast between Albenga and Laigueglia, and its main draw is the long, fine-sand beach that runs almost the full length of town, unusual on this mostly pebbly stretch of Riviera. The route leaves Nice on the A8, heads east past Monaco and Menton, and crosses into Italy at Ventimiglia, where the road becomes the A10 Autostrada dei Fiori. This is one of the most tunnel-and-viaduct-heavy motorways in Europe: you spend long stretches inside the mountain, with brief bursts of sea view between Sanremo, Imperia and Andora. Almost the whole journey is motorway, so it moves quickly outside peak weekends. You exit at Albenga, then follow a short coastal road into Alassio. The final approach into the centre narrows around the old town, where one-way streets and the pedestrian Budello mean drop-offs happen at the edge rather than the door of a seafront hotel.

Carry your passport or ID even though it's a free-flowing Schengen crossing; occasional checks happen near Ventimiglia, especially in summer. Tell your driver the exact hotel and, if it's on the seafront, the nearest cross street, because many can't be reached by car directly. Summer Saturdays see heavy congestion around the Sanremo and Imperia junctions and at the Albenga exit, so allow extra time for early check-in or a return flight. Italian motorway service stops (Autogrill) between Imperia and Albenga are reliable for a break. Note the time zone is the same as France. If you plan beach days, the paying bagni charge per lounger, so it's worth confirming whether your hotel includes beach access before you arrive.
