Private transfer from Naples International Airport to Palinuro
Door-to-door transfer from Naples International Airport to Palinuro with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Palinuro is known for
Palinuro sits on a headland in the Cilento National Park, at the southern end of Campania's coast. It's named after Aeneas's helmsman, and Capo Palinuro is the landmark that dominates the town. Boats leave the small harbour for the Grotta Azzurra and the string of sea caves along the cape. The best-known beaches are the Buondormire, reached on foot down a path, plus Marinella and the long Cala del Cefalo near the Mingardo river mouth. It fills up in July and August with Italian families and divers, and stays quiet the rest of the year. Nearby villages like Camerota, Marina di Camerota and the inland town of Pisciotta are short drives away, and the archaeological site of Velia lies further up the coast.
The drive down the Cilento coast
From Naples Airport the route heads onto the ring road and joins the A3, then the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo past Salerno and Pontecania. Most of the journey is motorway, fast and straightforward, until you exit around Battipaglia and pick up the SS18 heading south through the Cilento. The character changes here: the road runs inland past Agropoli and Vallo della Lucania before turning back toward the coast, with the final stretch to Palinuro becoming narrow and winding as it climbs and drops through hills above the sea. Expect roughly two and a half to three hours in total. The last thirty minutes are the slowest part, so this leg accounts for far more time than the distance suggests, especially with summer holiday traffic on the single-lane coastal roads.
Practical advice for this transfer
Because the final coastal roads are narrow and slow in July and August, book an early or midday pickup rather than late afternoon, when day-trippers clog the SS18 around Palinuro and Marina di Camerota. Give your exact accommodation address: the town spreads across the headland and several hotels and campsites sit outside the centre along the beach roads, where a driver needs the precise location. If you're arriving on a late flight, remember there are no easy public transport links to Palinuro after the evening, so a direct car is far more reliable than trying to connect by train to Pisciotta or Centola and a taxi onward. Pack light for the last stretch, as some lanes near the seafront and older parts of town are tight for larger vehicles.
