Torregaveta, just below, is the terminus of the Cumana railway and has a long stretch of dark-sand beach. Most visitors are day-trippers and Neapolitan families rather than international tourists, busiest from June to September. It's also a practical base for exploring nearby Bacoli, Cape Miseno and Lake Fusaro with the Casina Vanvitelliana. Fishing and seafood restaurants define the local character.

The route leaves Naples airport at Capodichino and joins the Tangenziale, the city's raised ring road, heading west. You pass the exits for Fuorigrotta and the Campi Flegrei before dropping down towards Pozzuoli and continuing along the coast road through Bacoli. Most of the journey is on fast urban motorway, so the pace is steady until the final stretch. The last few kilometres change character completely: the road climbs onto the headland through narrow residential streets with tight turns and steep gradients, especially if you're heading down to Acquamorta. Traffic on the Tangenziale can be heavy at rush hour and around Pozzuoli. Allow roughly 50 minutes in normal conditions, more in summer when the coast road fills up.

Give your driver the exact address and, if possible, the neighbourhood — Acquamorta, Torregaveta and the upper town are on very different levels, and the descent to the harbour is not somewhere to drag luggage on foot. Many local streets are one-way and narrow, so a larger vehicle may drop you at the nearest accessible point. If you're continuing to Procida, note that ferries and hydrofoils leave from Pozzuoli, not from Monte di Procida itself, so factor that into your plans. Summer weekends bring heavy beach traffic on the coast road through Bacoli; an early departure avoids the worst. Cash is still handy at smaller seafront kiosks and restaurants, and there are fewer late-night services here than in central Naples.
