What Marina di Camerota is known for
Marina di Camerota is a fishing and seaside town on the southern edge of the Cilento, part of the Cilento National Park and the Infreschi and Costa degli Infreschi marine protected area. It sits below the hilltop village of Camerota. Summer visitors come mainly for the beaches and coves: Cala Bianca, Lentiscelle, Pozzallo and the boat-only Baia degli Infreschi, plus sea caves reached from the harbour. The old part around the port keeps small streets, seafood restaurants and diving and boat-tour operators. It fills with Italian families and campers from June to early September, then quiets sharply. Scario, Palinuro and the Gulf of Policastro are all within a short drive, making it a base for exploring this stretch of coast rather than a single beach stop.
The drive south through the Cilento
This is a long transfer, around 190 km and generally two and a half to three hours depending on summer traffic. From Naples airport you join the ring road and the A3, then the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo heading south past Salerno and Battipaglia. The motorway does most of the distance inland, well away from the coast. You leave it in the Sapri or Padula–Buonabitacolo area and take slower state and provincial roads over the hills of the southern Cilento down towards the Gulf of Policastro. The last stretch through Scario and along the coast is winding and narrow in places, with sharp bends and sea views on the final descent into Marina di Camerota. It is a scenic but tiring final section after the fast motorway run.
Practical advice for this route
Treat this as a half-day journey, not a quick hop, and plan flight times so you are not driving the coastal bends after dark if you can avoid it. In July and August the single approach roads through Scario and Camerota clog with holiday traffic, so allow extra time and expect the last few kilometres to be slow. Tell us in advance if your accommodation is a campsite or a beach residence outside the centre, as several sit along the road towards Cala Bianca and Pozzallo rather than at the harbour. Vehicles cannot reach the Baia degli Infreschi by road, so arrange boat trips locally once you arrive. Bring water and anything children need, since there are long motorway stretches with limited stops before the final descent.
