Private transfer from Naples International Airport to Ercolano
Door-to-door transfer from Naples International Airport to Ercolano with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
Why travellers head to Ercolano
Ercolano is best known for the Herculaneum archaeological park, the Roman town buried by the AD 79 eruption of Vesuvius. Unlike Pompeii, it sits below the modern town, so you descend into it via the ramp off Corso Resina and see multi-storey buildings with preserved wooden beams. The town is also the main starting point for the road up Mount Vesuvius: shuttle buses and 4x4 transfers to the crater trail leave from near the ruins. Along Corso Resina you'll find the Vesuvian Villas, 18th-century noble residences built when this was a summer retreat for Neapolitan aristocracy. Most visitors are day-trippers and history-minded travellers in spring and autumn, plus hikers combining the ruins with a Vesuvius climb in summer.
The drive from the airport to Ercolano
Naples International (Capodichino) sits northeast of the city, and the route to Ercolano is short and almost entirely motorway. Drivers usually take the tangenziale and join the A3 Napoli–Salerno autostrada, following it southeast around the bay past San Giovanni a Teduccio and Portici. The Ercolano exit puts you a few minutes from Corso Resina and the ruins. The whole trip is around 15 km and typically 25–35 minutes, though the A3 near Naples backs up badly at rush hour and on summer weekends. The final stretch leaves the motorway for ordinary town streets, which are narrower and busier than the highway. You'll notice Vesuvius filling the view to your left for much of the way.
Practical tips for this transfer
The Herculaneum entrance is on Corso Resina, but the pedestrian approach runs down a long ramp from the ticket office — ask your driver to drop you at the top near Via IV Novembre rather than searching for closer parking that doesn't exist. If Vesuvius is your goal, note the crater trail requires a timed ticket booked in advance and closes in bad weather, so build flexibility into your day. Many hotels here are actually up the hill in the Vesuvian villa district or towards the national park, on streets too narrow for large vehicles; confirm the exact address so the driver can plan. The Circumvesuviana train station is central, useful if you continue to Pompeii or Sorrento afterwards.
