The route runs north on the airport access road, then joins the périphérique (ring road) before dropping down toward the Loire and crossing into the centre. It's almost entirely urban dual carriageway and city streets — no coastal or mountain stretches — so expect roughly 15 to 20 minutes outside peak hours. The final approach depends on your destination: reaching Bouffay or Graslin means threading tighter one-way streets near the château, while the Île de Nantes is reached by bridges over the Loire. Traffic on the périphérique thickens at morning and evening rush, which can add ten minutes or more.

Because the drive is so short, the main variable is the last few hundred metres. Much of Bouffay and Graslin is pedestrianised or restricted, so tell your driver the nearest accessible street or a landmark like Place du Bouffay, Place Graslin or the château entrance rather than only a hotel name. If you're staying on the Île de Nantes, confirm which bridge and quay, as the island is large. The tramway runs through the centre, so some drop-off points require a short walk with luggage over cobbles — worth knowing if you're mobility-limited. For early flights, factor in the périphérique rush; leaving central Nantes before 07:30 or after 09:30 avoids the worst. Cruise and river-boat passengers usually want the quays near Gare Maritime.
