Private transfer from Memmingen Allgäu Airport to Oberstdorf
Door-to-door transfer from Memmingen Allgäu Airport to Oberstdorf with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
Why people travel to Oberstdorf
Oberstdorf is the southernmost market town in Germany, sitting at the head of the Oberallgäu valleys with no through road beyond it. In winter it draws skiers to the Nebelhorn and Fellhorn/Kanzelwand areas and ski jumpers to the Schattenberg Schanze, home of the Four Hills Tournament every New Year. In summer hikers head for the Breitachklamm gorge, the Kleinwalsertal across the Austrian border, and cable cars up the Nebelhorn. The car-free town centre has spa hotels, the Kurpark, and the parish church of St Johann Baptist. Families, walkers, cross-country skiers and wellness guests make up most visitors, with the busiest weeks over Christmas, New Year and the July–September walking season.
The drive down the A7 and B19
The route runs almost entirely on fast roads. From Memmingen Allgäu Airport you join the A7 motorway heading south, passing Kempten before the motorway ends near Waltenhofen. From there the B19 continues south through the Iller valley, threading past Sonthofen and Fischen im Allgäu with the Allgäu peaks rising on both sides. The final stretch into Oberstdorf is a valley road rather than a mountain pass, so it is not especially winding, but you'll notice the mountains closing in as the valley narrows. Total distance is around 62 km and the drive normally takes just under an hour. Expect the scenery to shift from open farmland near the airport to steep forested slopes as you approach the town.
Practical tips for this transfer
The town centre of Oberstdorf is largely closed to through traffic, so confirm your hotel's exact drop-off point in advance; some spa hotels have designated loading zones near the pedestrian zone rather than door access. In winter the B19 is kept clear but snow chains can be needed on side roads to Fellhorn or the Kleinwalsertal, so tell your driver if your accommodation is up a valley. If you're heading to the Kleinwalsertal (Riezlern, Hirschegg, Mittelberg) you'll cross into Austria on a road that dead-ends there, reached only through Oberstdorf. For early ski-jumping events or first cable-car departures, book an early pickup, as the single valley road can slow during peak arrival weekends around the New Year tournament.
