The route is almost entirely motorway. From Memmingen you join the A96 heading east, and it runs directly toward Munich across flat and gently rolling Allgäu and Upper Bavarian farmland. On clear days the Alps are visible as a line along the southern horizon; you'll pass exits for Landsberg am Lech and Germering before the suburbs begin. The A96 feeds into the western edge of Munich near Sendling and Laim, so a centre or Schwabing address means crossing part of the city. Expect roughly 85 minutes with light traffic. The final stretch is the slow part: the Mittlerer Ring and inner streets back up during weekday rush hours, and old-town access around Marienplatz is pedestrianised, so drop-offs happen at the nearest accessible street.

Memmingen is a small airport, so arrivals clear quickly and a car meeting you avoids the long onward options — the train involves a shuttle bus to Memmingen station first, and the express bus to Munich takes well over an hour. For Oktoberfest dates, give your driver a drop-off point away from the Theresienwiese, as roads around the fairground close and traffic is severe; the area near the Hauptbahnhof or Sendlinger Tor is more reliable. If your hotel is in the pedestrian old town, share the exact street entrance in advance. Travellers continuing to the Alps or Salzburg can arrange a direct transfer rather than routing through central Munich. For late arrivals, note that the A96 is well lit and fast at night, keeping the run close to its off-peak time.
