Traffic on and off the island can slow to a crawl on summer weekends and during events.

Tell the driver whether your accommodation is on the island or on the mainland side around Aeschach and Reutin, as vehicle access into the island old town is restricted and many hotels are easier reached by the outer streets. If you are staying near the harbour, expect a short walk from the drop-off point, since cars cannot reach the promenade itself. For lake crossings, the passenger ferries leave from the island harbour, while the car ferry to Konstanz runs from Meersburg, well to the west. Book the return pickup for a mainland meeting point on busy summer days to avoid island congestion. The airport is small, so arrivals clear quickly and there is little waiting before you can set off.
