The route leaves Memmingen on the A7 autobahn heading south towards Füssen, then crosses into Austria and picks up the B179 Fernpass road through Reutte and Nassereith. The Fernpass itself is a genuine mountain pass: a two-lane road with climbs, hairpins and stretches where overtaking isn't possible, so timing depends heavily on traffic. On peak winter Saturdays and summer holiday weekends this corridor is a known bottleneck. Beyond Nassereith the road drops towards Telfs and joins the A12 Inntal autobahn, which runs level along the valley floor into Innsbruck. Expect around two to two and a half hours in normal conditions. The final approach into the city passes under the Nordkette before reaching the Altstadt.

Ask your driver about the departure time on winter weekends: the Fernpass can add an hour or more, and an early start avoids the worst queues near Nassereith and Reutte. If your accommodation is inside the Altstadt, note that the old-town core is largely pedestrianised and access is restricted, so the drop-off may be at the nearest permitted point rather than the door. Have your exact hotel address ready, as several ski resorts near Innsbruck (Igls, Mutters, Axams) sit above the city and lengthen the final climb.
