The last stretch into Füssen is ordinary country road rather than steep or winding, so it's an easy ride even for anyone prone to travel sickness. If your goal is Neuschwanstein, ask to be dropped in Hohenschwangau rather than central Füssen — the ticket centre and shuttle buses are there, about 4 km from town. Book castle timeslots online in advance; walk-up tickets often sell out by midday in summer. Many hotels are in the old town's pedestrian zone, so give the exact street and note that vehicles can't always reach the door. Several accommodations are actually in Schwangau, Hopfen am See or Weißensee rather than Füssen proper — confirm the village when booking so the driver routes correctly. For a lakeside stay at Hopfen am See, mention it, as it's a separate turn-off before Füssen. Winter travellers should allow extra time for snow on the final valley roads.
