Saint Tropez fills up from June to September, when the Vieux Port lines up with yachts and the terrace at Sénéquier stays busy all day. The pull for most visitors is Pampelonne beach, a long sandy stretch that actually sits in neighbouring Ramatuelle, home to Club 55 and Nikki Beach. In town, Place des Lices hosts the market on Tuesday and Saturday mornings and pétanque under the plane trees the rest of the week. The old quarter of La Ponche, the Citadelle above it, and the Musée de l'Annonciade near the port reward anyone escaping the crowds. Golfers head to Golf de Gassin, and hilltop villages Gassin, Ramatuelle and Grimaud make easy half-day trips. Nightlife centres on Les Caves du Roy.

The route leaves Marseille Provence on the A50, skirts Toulon and follows the A57 corridor eastward before turning inland toward Le Luc and Vidauban. From there the D558 climbs over the Massif des Maures through La Garde-Freinet, a wooded, winding stretch of cork-oak hills that feels far from the coast. The road then drops down to Grimaud and the head of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The final section along the D98a hugs the shore past Port Grimaud and Cogolin toward the peninsula. It is roughly 150 kilometres and around two hours in normal conditions. The motorway does most of the work; the last part is a single road with roundabouts that fill up in high season, so the closing stretch often takes longer than the map suggests.

In July and August the bottleneck is the single road into Saint Tropez, worst around the Cogolin and La Foux roundabouts in late morning and again at early evening. An early departure from the airport, before the beach traffic builds, saves real time. If your accommodation is inside the old town, streets like the Vieux Port and the lanes behind Place des Lices are narrow and often pedestrianised in season, so agree a practical drop-off point in advance; the port car parks and Place des Lices area are common meeting spots. Guests heading to Pampelonne should note the beach is on the Ramatuelle side, a further drive south from the town centre. Coming from the airport, this is largely inland driving, so pack sunshade and water for the summer stretch across the Maures.
