Private transfer from Malta International Airport to Gozo
Door-to-door transfer from Malta International Airport to Gozo with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Gozo is known for
Gozo is Malta's quieter second island, greener and more rural than the main island. The capital, Victoria (also called Rabat), is built around the hilltop Cittadella, a fortified old town with cathedral, narrow lanes and views across the whole island. Divers head to Dwejra near San Lawrenz for the Inland Sea and Blue Hole, while families use Ramla Bay, the red-sand beach below Xagħra and Nadur. The fishing villages of Marsalforn and Xlendi fill up with swimmers and diners in summer. Ġgantija's megalithic temples in Xagħra predate the pyramids, and the Ta' Pinu basilica near Għarb draws pilgrims. Hikers come in spring and autumn for the coastal paths and the Xwejni salt pans. Most visitors are day-trippers or people staying in Gozo's farmhouse rentals.
The drive north and the Gozo ferry
Gozo has no airport, so the transfer combines a road journey with a ferry. From Malta International Airport at Luqa the route runs north, skirting the Mrieħel bypass and joining the Coast Road at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, where you get open sea views. It continues through St Paul's Bay, Xemxija and Mellieħa before dropping down to the Ċirkewwa terminal at Malta's northern tip — roughly 40 to 45 minutes without traffic. From Ċirkewwa the Gozo Channel ferry crosses to Mġarr harbour in about 25 minutes, passing the islet of Comino and the Blue Lagoon. From Mġarr it is a short climb up to Victoria and the rest of Gozo. Ferries run frequently through the day and into the night in summer.
Planning the airport-to-Gozo journey
The ferry adds time you can't fully control, so build in a buffer, especially on summer weekends and around public holidays when Ċirkewwa queues build up. A car ferry with a driver stays with the vehicle, so you continue door-to-door rather than dragging luggage on foot. If your accommodation is a farmhouse in villages like Għarb, San Lawrenz or Żebbuġ, note that lanes are narrow and often unsigned — have the exact address and a phone number ready for the driver. The last road-registered ferries thin out late at night, so confirm timing for very early or very late flights. Gozo's roads are steep and winding after Mġarr, so anyone prone to motion sickness should sit forward. Bring water; there is little shade at the terminals during the crossing wait.
