Villanueva del Rosario sits in the north of Málaga province, in the Antequera district, near where the province meets Granada. People come here for walking and rural quiet: the karst limestone ridges above the village draw hikers, and the Tajo de Gomer and nearby springs are known to those who explore this range. Neighbouring villages include Villanueva del Trabuco, Villanueva de Tapia and Alfarnate along the old Málaga–Granada corridor. Visitors are mostly rural-tourism travellers, hikers in spring and autumn, and residents or second-home owners. From Málaga Airport the route heads away from the coast, not along it. You join the ring road and pick up the A-45 towards Antequera and Córdoba, climbing steadily past Casabermeja and over the hills that separate the coastal strip from the interior. After the higher ground the road descends towards the Antequera plain, and you turn east onto the A-92M/A-92 towards Granada, leaving at the Villanueva del Rosario exit. It is dual carriageway almost the entire way, so the journey is smooth until the short final stretch into the village, where the road narrows and climbs into the sloped centre. The landscape shifts noticeably: from airport sprawl to pine-covered hills, then open farmland and limestone sierras. Total driving time is usually under an hour.

Because the village is inland and rural, plan around the fact that services are limited compared with the coast. Fill any shopping or pharmacy needs in Antequera or at a supermarket near the A-92 before the final climb, as small shops in the village keep short and lunchtime-broken hours. If your accommodation is a rural house or finca outside the centre, send the exact coordinates or a pinned location in advance; addresses on the outlying tracks can be hard to find and the narrow upper streets are awkward for a car to turn in. Winters here are colder than on the coast and the higher sierra roads can see fog or ice, so allow extra time in December to February. There is no direct train, and bus links are infrequent, which makes a door-to-door transfer the practical option.
